Brief Summary of
Vitamins and Minerals and there
functions
All foods contain water soluble,
fat soluble and fibrous
substances. The physical body
require all 3 substances to
BE Healthy
A metaphor of the difference
between vitamins and minerals.
Vitamins are like the fuel for
your automobile. Without fuel
the automobile will not run.
Minerals are like the battery to
your automobile and without the
electrical charge the battery
gives to provide the combustion
for the engine then your
automobile will still not run.
It requires both the fuel and
the combustion in order to make
the automobile move. So it is
with the body. All the elements
are important.
Most all water soluble nutrients
are measured in milligrams or
micrograms ( mg or mcg ) and fat
soluble nutrients are measured
in international units ( iu ).
These are micro- measurements.
Many get confused when they read
the large numbers used to
measure vitamins. So here are
equivalents for them.
5000 mcg = 1 milligram *** very
small unit of measure (1/16th of
teaspoon or less)
5000 mg = approximately *** 1
teaspoon
125,000 IU = approximately *** 1
teaspoon
1 grain = 65 mg
Most adults can take up to
10,000 mg daily of vitamin C
with no side effects. Vitamin C
is water soluble so the body
does not store vitamin C. It was
DR. LINUS PAULING that
discovered vitamin C . It is
said the he took 5000 to 10,000
mg daily just for
maintenance.
The Science of Nutrition: Along
with friend Albert Einstein, Dr.
Linus Pauling is considered to
be the leading scientific mind
of our century. Dr. Pauling made
history by being the only person
to have ever won two unshared
Nobel prizes and is considered
to be the father of vitamin
research. Dr. Pauling is also
responsible for the worldwide
knowledge that vitamin C should
be taken when one has a cold.
Most minerals are water soluble.
Vitamins can be either water
soluble or fat soluble. In order
for the body to utilize
individual nutrients there has
to be augmenting nutrients
present. Nature has already
provided the necessary
augmenting nutrient in each food
so that all the nutrients are
readily available for the body
to make use of .
Example: For the body to absorb
vitamin A properly it needs to
have the B-Complex, choline, C,
D ,E, F, Calcium, Phosphorus,
and zinc present to prevent any
type of toxic side effects.
Nature has already provided this
for us. Note: this is not saying
that sometimes we do not require
extra Vitamin A. It best however
not to use it a single added
nutrient for extended periods of
time unless it is part of a
nutritional protocol worked out
especially for you. Also if your
diet is not high in dark green
foods then Vitamin A can be
really good for you.
There are plenty of books and
charts available today that give
the break down and use of each
vitamin and mineral and which
parts of the body is effected by
it. The Nutritional Almanac has
good information. Most Health
Food Stores have books and
charts available.
Here are a few interesting facts
that are good to know.
B-Vitamins are water soluble
they must be consumed daily
because the body cannot store
them. All B-Vitamins are
essential to a healthy nervous
system, a healthy digestive
system and a healthy intestinal
system. Without B-Vitamins the
body cannot digest proteins,
carbohydrates and fats. Without
B-Vitamins the body cannot have
a healthy peristalsis which is
the involuntary contractions of
the hollow muscular structure of
the esophagus or intestine
forcing the contents onward.
B-Vitamins are called Stress
Vitamins because they feed and
nourish the nervous system.
However any thing over a 115
degrees destroys most B-Vitamins
because they are heat sensitive.
So in today’s society our foods
are cooked to death.
Sprouts are natures power house
foods because the living enzymes
have not been destroyed by
cooking them first.
One can take any seed and sprout
it unless it is placed in
boiling water first then it will
Never grow.
Calcium is the most plentiful
mineral in the body and it is
also the most difficult to
digest and absorb. The bones are
90% calcium. The other 10% is in
the soft tissue. This 10 % that
it in the soft tissue is so
important that if the body is
lacking it will draw it from
bone.
Calcium, Sodium, and Potassium
are called the bodies
electrolytes.
The Liver is the sole organ
responsible for fat digestion in
the body.
The Parathyroid is sole gland
responsible for Calcium
absorption in the body. The
Thyroid gland controls the
bodies metabolism.
All foods that are consumed are
only as good as the bodies
ability to absorb and metabolize
the nutrients contain within
them.
The 2 main systems that regulate
and cleanse the body systems to
keep them functioning in a
harmonious manner are the Liver
and Kidneys.
Every cell is a miniature body
it does everything the whole
body does. The body has organs
and glands, at the cellular
level they are called
organelles.
The nucleus of the cell is the
brain of the cell or its nervous
system.
The Brain and Spinal Cord are
the bodies Central Nervous
System.
The most important fact to
remember about Vitamins is
Quality is better than quantity.
Supplements that are made and
processed from Whole foods are
superior those that are
synthetically reproduced. Some
say the body does not know the
difference. Only ask yourself if
you know the difference in whole
milk and powdered milk or real
eggs and powdered eggs. Almost
everyone will answer yes to that
question. So how is that the
body which has all this
intelligence that knows how to
take foods and convert them into
flesh, blood and energy does not
know the difference in the Real
thing and the Clone ?
Not all supplements are of equal
value to the body. Just because
the label reads that it is of a
certain value does not make it a
really good one.
Always look for supplements that
are made and processed from
Whole foods.
How supplements are processed
does make a difference.
Cheap is not always better. Most
supplements that are of any real
value are about the same in
price. Because the producers are
aware that quality is better
than quantity.
